A community needs many kinds of work: FARMER and BAKER help provide food, DRIVER and PILOT move people or goods, and TEACHER and COACH support learning. DOCTOR, NURSE, MAYOR, and CLERK invite a closer look at services and responsibilities. Use a concrete community scenario for discussion.
A FARMER, BAKER, and CHEF may all be involved in food reaching a table, but their work differs. A community event can also call on a DRIVER, ARTIST, and CLERK.

Activity 1
Service match
Students match each job with one or more community needs such as learning, healthcare, food, transportation, government, recreation, or creativity. Multiple matches are encouraged.
Activity 2
Tools and places
Students choose six jobs and identify a likely workplace, tool, or task for each. They can describe the task and tools associated with each job title.
Activity 3
Community problem scenario
Give a simple fictional situation, such as planning a school event or helping after a storm. Students identify which roles could contribute and explain how.
After the Puzzle
Give pairs a problem such as getting fresh food to a neighborhood event and ask them to choose two or three helpers. Check the reason for each choice rather than expecting one official answer. A PILOT would be relevant only if air travel is part of the scenario; an ARTIST might help with signs or design. A job title alone does not describe a person's identity or abilities. If a student says only a man can be a DRIVER or only a woman can be a NURSE, invite counterexamples and return to the work being done. The response should show a plausible service and connection.
Set up a fictional community event that needs food, transportation, signs, and help for participants. Students select a FARMER, BAKER, DRIVER, ARTIST, CLERK, or other role and describe one realistic contribution. A DOCTOR and NURSE might help with health needs, while a COACH or TEACHER might organize learning or play; none is required in every event. MAYOR and PILOT are not interchangeable with local service workers simply because all are job titles. Ask students how two people could collaborate on the same need and let them include a helper not listed in the puzzle.
