Word Search Generator FAQ
How do I make a word search puzzle?
Enter a title and your word list, choose rows, columns, max words, and allowed directions, then click Generate Puzzle. The generator creates a letter grid and an answer key with solution lines.
Can I use my own words?
Yes. You can paste or type your own words, one per line or separated by commas. For best results, use words that fit the selected rows and columns, and keep very long words for larger grids.
What rows and columns should I choose?
Use fewer rows and columns for short word lists or easier puzzles. Choose a larger grid when you have more words, longer words, or want a harder puzzle with more empty space.
Can words go diagonally or backwards?
Yes. Use the direction controls to allow horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or backward words before generating the puzzle.
Can I see the answer key?
Yes. After generating a puzzle, click Show Answer Key to check word placements before copying or printing the puzzle.
Can I copy or print the puzzle?
Yes. You can copy the puzzle or answer key to your clipboard. You can also use your browser's print option for a paper copy. Direct PDF or Word export is not part of the current version.
Is the word search generator free?
Yes. The core word search generator is free to use and does not require signup.
Are my word lists stored?
Your word list is used to generate the puzzle in the tool and is not sent in analytics events. Avoid entering private student information or confidential content into puzzle titles or word lists.
